Google may add ‘buy’ buttons to search results for mobile users

Google may add ‘buy’ buttons to search results for mobile users
Google is now getting set to take on major e-commerce companies such as Amazon and eBay. The company is reportedly going to launch ‘buy’ buttons on its search-result pages in a few weeks in what is being seen as an attempt to become an online marketplace rivalling leading online retail destinations.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the launch have said that Google will begin showing users the buy button when they search for products on their mobile devices, but not on desktop computers. Once users click on the button, they will be redirected to another Google product page to complete their purchase.
Customers will be able choose preferred sizes and colours as well while purchasing through this feature. The Verge reports, Google will also let users store their credit card information to offer faster transactions the next time they search for an item and want to purchase it.
Currently, Google is reportedly in talks with a small number of retailers and will start the program with a small percentage of its search traffic, stated the Wall Street Journal report. Non-sponsored results, which are driven by the company’s basic search algorithm reportedly will not appear in the search results.
What’s worrying retailers is the fact that this move by Google, which is a primary and vital source of traffic, could turn the company into a major marketplace where purchases take place. As of now, retailers send Google data on the products they are selling online. Google is paid as and when customers click through to their websites.
